Lloyd's insures Ugly Betty star's smile for $10 million. The $10 million smile: Ugly Betty star America Ferrera's smile has been insured at Lloyd's. Lloyd’s has insured the smile of America Ferrera, star of the hit television show Ugly Betty, for $10 million.
The policy was bought by at home teeth- whitening product Aquafresh White Trays as part of a promotion involving the celebrity
which aims to raise money for US charity Smiles for Success. Wendy Baker, President, Lloyd’s America,
helped to ‘unveil’ the Ugly Betty actress as the star behind the smile promotion at a ceremony
in New York City yesterday.
She said: “Lloyd’s, as the world’s leading, specialist insurance market, has more than 300 years' experience devising innovative insurance policies for unique risks – and insuring celebrity body parts is one of them. That's why, when our underwriters were approached
to insure America's smile for $10 million, they were happy to devise a policy that fitted the
bill." Miss Ferrera, who plays Betty Suarez in the hit US show, is the latest in a long line of celebrities to be insured at the world’s leading,
specialist insurance market. Lloyd’s has insured Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards’ fingers; Marlene Dietrich’s legs; and, according to one history book, actress Bette Davis once insured her waistline against expansion. An underwriter was once even approached to.insure an un-named celebrity’s chest hair..The insurance coverage was placed through Lloyd's broker Glencairn Limited on behalf of
Hanleigh Management Inc, based in Montvale, New Jersey.
Miss Ferrera said: “Thank you to Aquafresh White Trays and Lloyd’s of London for insuring my smile, I’ll try my hardest to take care of it.
It’s very flattering to have my smile insured for $10 million, it’s not something that I ever imagined happening.”

In 1997, Yahoo turned down the offer to buy Google for $1 million - Today, Google is worth about $200 billion.
As one might expect, Google continues to lead the pack in most countries by a large margin.
In 1997, Yahoo turned down the chance to buy Google for $1 million. Dramatically, today google is worth $200 billion, Yahoo just $20 billion. However, as a world-wide search
engine, Google had already been struggling in Asian market.
The data base below is the “Search Engine Market Share BY Country
2013.” There are 31 countries in the data base.
Google is the leader search engine in most countries, except China, Japan, Russia, and.South Korea.
It’s been more than two and a half years since Google left the Chinese search market, and the market share for its search and maps segments has continued to wane. The photo below shows the search engines in China. Google’s market
share continue decrease from 5.1% in Dec 2012 to 1.6 in Dec 2013..Why Google met so many trouble to get into the Chinese market?
The biggest fact is culture differences. The way Chinese citizen search for content online
differs significantly from the way people source information in the West. In China, the average age for search is 25, the west is 35;
In China, the focus on result page are widespread, covering whole page, however, in west, people more focus on upper left part of
page; In China, the popular search device is Mobile phone, in west, people more like using desktop or laptop. The search method is also
different. In China, people prefer to choose from list, in west, people prefer to type in key word. Thus, if Google still didn’t take its user
behaviors into account, it will hard to get into Asian market.

Apple co-founder Ronald Wayne sold his 10% share in 1976 for $2,300 - Today, it’s worth over $58 billion.
On April 12th, 1976, one of three co-founders of Apple Computer sold his 10% stake in the company for $2,300. Ronald Wayne says he
made the “best decision with the information available to me at the time” when he chose to sell his shares in the emerging technology
firm. Unlike counterparts Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Wayne had capital on the line and stood to lose his assets if Apple went
under. Had he retained his full stake in Apple to this day, it would currently be worth nearly
$60 billion. Wayne went on to enjoy a long career as an engineer with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and other
firms, Wired reports, and he later opened a stamp shop before retiring to Pahrump, Nevada. Apple is currently the most valuable company in the world and as of Wednesday’s close, the company’s market capitalization
totalled just under $585 billion.
In 2005 in Turkey, a suicide sheepjumped off a cliff and 1500 sheepfollowed the first one
Are sheep too smart for their own good, or are they just plain dumb? We’ll let you be the judge of that after you have read this bizarre
yet slightly fascinating story. As Turkish shepherds watched on whilst their herd of sheep grazed, one sheep decided that it had enough of the world and jumped to its death. It doesn’t stop there though…
As the stunned Turkish shepherds looked on, their herd of sheep one by one followed the initial sheep’s actions and jumped to their death as well – a nearly whopping 1,500 of them!
It was reported that in the end, 450 sheep died after the mass suicide jump. They were able to save quite a few as those who jumped later were saved as the pile of sheep got higher, therefore the pile became more cushioned.
Unfortunately, this mass suicide of sheep had an estimated loss to families of $100,000 – a very significant amount of money as the
average GDP per head is around the figure of $2,700
